Tokyo

Tokyo is the capital of Japan. It has got the seat of the Japanese government, the Imperial Palace (where the Imperial Family of Japan lives) and also is the biggest metropolitan area of the world. In the Greater Tokyo Area live 35,676,000 persons. Tokyo means “capital of the east” in Japanese.

It was founded in 1457, but it was a little village of fishermen. It started to be the capital of Japan in 1868, because started the Meiji Restoration, and Japan became an industrially country.

The city has got some districts called –ku. The most important are:

Shinjuku: it is the district of the economy. It has got the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building. Also, it has got a lot of shopping centres and restaurants. It has got a good night life.

-         - Minato: Minato is the district of the foreign people. It has got the Tokyo Tower and also the new big urban zone of Roppongi Hills, with lots of shops, restaurants...

-       -  Asakusa: it has got the most important Buddhist temple of Tokyo, Senso-ji. It has got very good restaurants and it is a traditional district.

-       - Odaiba: Odaiba is an artificial island. It has got a lot of different headquarters of the most important companies of Japan. The most famous is the Fuji TV building, headquarter of this TV channel.

Tokyo is a city with the last technology and also an ancient culture. It is the city of tomorrow, but today.
